What I like to eat:
I am a
VERY good eater!
- Of course, I like to
eat seed! (I’m a bird, aren’t
I?) But please don’t feed me a
mixture with sunflower seeds in it.
I like those best, and I might pick them out and leave the rest, and
that wouldn’t give me a balanced diet!
Please give me sunflower seeds only as a treat! Also, buy my seed in plastic bags. That way you can see if it’s fresh or
not! And remember, since seed is
high in fat, only about 50% of my diet is supposed to be seed!
- I LOVE to eat fruit and
veggies! I like them fresh and I
like them frozen! (well, maybe you could THAW them first!) Please give me veggies and fruit everyday. But don’t leave them in my cage all
day, because they could go bad and then I might get sick! Give them to me for about four-five
hours at a time.
- I need lots of grain in
my diet. Grain should make up a
large part of my diet. I can get
lots of that in my seed, but since seed is also high in fat, please give
me other types of train as well!
Good choices are whole grain pastas (cooked, please!), whole-grain
breads crumbled up, brown rice and soaked grain.
- I LOVE Millet trees and
other bird treats, but please remember that if I have these all the time, I
might NOT eat my regular food!
Then I wouldn’t get a balanced diet, and I might get sick!
- Please give me vitamins
and calcium. Especially
calcium! Yum!
- In order to have a
balanced diet, I also need protein.
I can get some of that from my seed, but it’s really good to give
me protein in other ways as well!
Some good foods for me are hard boiled egg, chicken, cheese, yogurt
and beans (but please cook them!
Otherwise, they could kill me!).
Protein should make up about 10 % of my diet.
